Today March 25th is International Waffle Day!

Waffle Day is a day that you can waffle on issues and decisions. And, it certainly is a day to eat waffles.

This holiday originated in Sweden. It is called Våffeldagen. The holiday coincides with the Feast of the Annunciation. This day was also considered the start of spring in Sweden and Europe.  It became a custom for Swedish families to celebrate the two events by making waffles on this day.

The waffle dates back to the 1300s in Greece. Greeks cooked flat cakes between two metal pans. At the time, they topped it with cheeses and herbs. Pancake syrup wasn't around back then.

Waffles are commonly eaten as breakfast or a snack. They are also an occasional dinner meal for some people.  So, visit your local Waffle House and have a waffle!

Today is Make Your Own Holiday Day!  I'm serious, Make Your On Holiday Day allows you to make today a special day for anything you want. The objective of today, is to allow one day for any topic or event that has otherwise escaped recognition... up to now.

So, my holiday today is . . .Be Nice To Me, I've Had A  Sucky Day!

Anybody else got a special day for today?

So, today is . . .National Joe Day!   It's a chance to change your name, if only for today.

Many people do not like their given name. They wish they could change it. A few actually do. On National Joe Day, it is perfectly okay to have everyone call you "Joe". Why Joe, and not Bob or Mike or Radcliffe? Simply, because everyone seems to like the name Joe. If you are called Joe today, we know that you're "Joe cool"!

This works well for the men out there, but what about us girls?? Maybe Josephine, or Jody, or Jolene . . .

We could be Jo. Apparently leaving the silent E off makes it feminine..

Sorry I missed yesterday . . . but hey, today March 29th is National Mom and Pop Business Owners Day! It celebrates small business owners. These individuals spend countless hours nurturing and growing their young enterprises. The workload demands, and lack of a hired staff, often translates into long and late hours, and many missed family and personal events. But, all in all, they love what they do. After all, they are their own boss.

New businesses have always been a vital, yet not fully appreciated, part of the U.S. economy. On they retail side, they bring different and unique products to the marketplace. They provide stellar and personal service support. When you call, you are more likely to get a real, live person. And unlike big national chains, they know their products. They are outstanding performers in niche markets. In manufacturing, they create many new concepts and ideas, making them creators of new products.

Celebrate National Mom and Pop Business Owners Day by showing your their stores today, and everyday.[color]

That's good.  I prefer trying to patron, shop and eat at small local businesses rather than big chains.

You can still tell us what yesterday was.  You must have really missed me if you forgot?

On March 30, 1981, President Ronald Reagan was wounded in an assassination attempt. Lots of confusion prevailed. In the White House, then Secretary of State Alexander Haig was taken a little out of context when he said "I am in control here". Instead of focusing upon the entire statement, people and the press focused upon these few words.  Political uproar eventually led to his resignation.

On that infamous day, I am in Control Day was born.

History sometimes fades with time. Alexander Haig's statement was all but forgotten. Meanwhile, this special day continued on, and evolved. People came to think about this day in a different context. They personalized it into a day to get their life in control. In that sense, today is definitely a call to action.  "I am in Control Day" is your chance to get things in order and under control.

Most likely, the first step is to take a deep breath and relax. Now, assess the situation, and.......... get things under control. Once you have accomplished this today, you can work on staying in control everyday.

Today is Clam on the Half Shell Day. Boy, the world really needs a day like today. You must be elated that someone was smart enough, and had the insight, to create this day for us to enjoy and savor.

Hope that you like clams. Because, the objective of the day is to enjoy clams on the half shell. If you don't like clams, don't be sad or disappointed, tomorrow is a brand new day!

Don't hide in your shell today. Don't clam up. Get out and celebrate this special day!
